We spent three more days in the car and thought that it would be fun to share how we stay in love and present during long drives.

Here is a list;

  1. Stop for lunch in a beautiful spot on the land, take a walk or a bike ride

  2. Play rock, paper, scissors at gas stations-whoever wins leads a joyful exercise (The above photo shows Luke pretending to be one of those huge 'things' that blow around outside of stores to attract attention- he does it well!)

  3. Listen to music everyone enjoys

  4. Play song-song (one person plays a song, and then the next puts on a song that was inspired by the first one, and so on)

  5. Play music oracle - ask a question and randomly choose a song from a list to find your answer

  6. Eat lots of healthy snacks (warning these items can not be found at gas stations or small towns, some prep necessary)

  7. Shift your body around and get out at least every 1 1/2 hours

  8. Have sacred items and mascots in your vehicle (we have shiva, a bald eagle, a crow, a blessings bundle, and protective rocks)

  9. Do constant spiritual practice (such as deep breathing, chanting, pay attention to body sensations, pray and bring the mind to presence)

  10. SING

  11. Be mindful of the effects of driving (getting snippy, tired, cranky, dizzy etc.) - switch drivers often and do not take the behaviour personally

  12. BE POSITIVE

  13. Use back support (we have a yoga wrap spine support, and sheep skin)

Yes, the journey does take longer. Which makes life longer, the more we enjoy the journey rather than being focused on the destination the more time we have to live!
